Trials can have many purposes. One of them is for us to realize how much we need God and that we can’t do this life alone. We need to ask God for help in this crazy life.
I’m not always great about turning to God at the first taste of trouble. Sometimes I try to problem solve and control things according to what I think before realizing my limits and leaning on His limitless strength. This tends to end up with a bigger mess and create more problems for me.
Scripture says in Proverbs 3:5-6:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.”
This life and world isn’t stable, but it can become stablized when we ask God for help and lean on His ways. Remember that’s the point…The struggle brings us to the end of ourselves to keep us focused on how much we need Him.
Here’s some tips for the next time you go to ask God for help:
Have a surrendered heart
I know it’s easier said than done, but it’s an important first step. Have a heart that is open to whatever God chooses your path to be even if it looks different than your plan. Who are we to think our plan is better than His?!
Trust His Ways
Isaiah tells us that God’s ways and thoughts aren’t our ways or thoughts. In fact, His ways are HIGHER! Trust Him to show you that He is in control.
Look for the Lesson
Remember that there is purpose in our struggles. They are meant to refine us, strengthen us, and bring us closer to who God made us to be. We have to lean on Him to get us there.
This world is not our home. Remember we need God’s strength and help to get us to our final destination beyond this world for eternity.
