Do you ever get to that hopeless place where it feels like nothing will change? That place where it feels like giving up is the only option. That place where it feels like part of you has died inside and you don’t know if it will ever come back to life. That place where you wonder if your heart will beat again the way it used to.
Many people go through seasons of life where they visit that dark place. Some people live there longer than others.
When I am going through hard times, one of my ways to cope is music. It speaks to my heart and reminds me of the truths that the darkness hides. The song below is one of those ‘life giving songs’ when I feel low. It’s words are just beautiful. They speak the heart of my therapy practice as it is a great reminder of Renewed Horizon’s foundational verse:
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” ~II Corinthians 5:17
Listen to it as you keep reading…meditate on the words and the hope that even in our pain and emptiness we can have a new beginning of freedom from the past.
Tell Your Heart To Beat Again by Danny Gokey
Tell your heart to beat again
Close your eyes and breathe it in
Let the shadows fall away
Step into the light of grace
Yesterday’s a closing door
You don’t live there anymore
Say goodbye to where you’ve been
And tell your heart to beat again
I love the image of closing your eyes and just letting the past fall away as you step through yesterday’s door and into a the light of what is to come. A place of hope, healing, and to be alive again. You don’t have to stay and live in the past pain of yesterday.
Just let that word wash over you
It’s alright now
Love’s healing hands have pulled you through
So get back up, take step one
Leave the darkness, feel the sun
Cause your story’s far from over
And your journey’s just begun
Just because the new beginning is here does not mean that the story is over. It is a journey filled with hope as LOVE guides your steps in the light. But remember you have to be willing to take step one out of the darkness. It seems so simple, but many people don’t take that step towards a healing journey.
Let every heartbreak
And every scar
Be a picture that reminds you
Who has carried you this far
‘Cause love sees farther than you ever could
In this moment heaven’s working
Everything for your good
This is a beautiful way to hold our pain. Your scars are evidence of God’s love and work in your life. His scars are evidence of that too. His scars are there because of His love for us. Our pain has a purpose for our good, our growth and to draw us near to Jesus in order to lean on Him to make it through. We are not alone in the pain. He is right there holding you.
Are you in a hopeless place fighting to pull yourself out? I pray this song and these words give you comfort that there is hope in Jesus. That He alone will make your life new when you join Him in the light. Take the first step out of the dark place today.
