Trials can have many purposes. One of them is for us to realize how much we need God. We need to ask for help in this crazy life.

Difficult times bring us to the point of knowing we can’t do life alone.

I’m not always great about turning to God at the first taste of trouble. Sometimes I try to problem solve and control things according to what I think. This tends to end up with a bigger mess.

Scripture says in Proverbs 3:5-6,

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.”

Life isn’t stable because of what we do. Life can become stable when we ask for help and lean on His ways. Remember that’s the point…The struggle brings us to the end of ourselves to keep us focused on how much we need Him.

Here are tips for the next time you go to God to ask for help:

  • Have a surrendered heart

I know it is easier said than done, but it is an important first step. Have a heart that is open to whatever God chooses.

  • Trust His Ways

Isaiah tells us that God’s ways and thoughts aren’t our ways or thoughts. In fact His ways are HIGHER! Trust Him to show you that He is in control.

  • Look for the Lesson

Remember that there is purpose in our struggles. They are meant to refine us, strengthen us, and bring us closer to who God made us to be. We have to lean on Him to get us there.

This world is not our home. Remember we need God’s strength and help to get us to our final destination.
